Hello again fellow men, women, and children. Man it's always difficult
to start off an email because I don't know what to say half the time.
Oh well, let's see what happened this week.
Monday: We had pday and basically did nothing except watch some Mormon
messages. We tracted that night and met a guy who was kind of slow of
speech and using his vocal cords so much that it almost sounded like
he was growling at us. He apparently got into an accident awhile back
and damaged his brain stem I think. He talked to us for a half an hour
and we got to meet his cousin. She was very interested in learning
more, so that was good. It was really hard to understand him, but we
were able to do it with the gift of interpretation of tongues.
Tuesday: We tracted Tuesday, and got to this one guys house. When he
opened the door, he said, "you're not Elders." Thinking he was joking
about it meaning elderly I laughed, but then he said, "Biblically,
Elders are men who are married and have children." So basically this
guy tried to convert us and told us our way was wrong and whatnot. I
kept my mouth shut this time. I just listened and didn't argue or
correct him. We are all entitled to our own opinions after all. We
eventually told him that we know that our church is true and kept on
tracting. Also while tracting, I found a Pokemon card. No it wasn't an
energy card thank goodness. It's a Hawlucha. Very cool right? Then we
went on splits with the Branch President and Gage Carr. I took Gage to
see Mary and Marilyn, while Elder McCoy took President Coots to
Brother Stockton's. We taught Mary and Marilyn the Word of Wisdom.
Gage's testimony on it was powerful, even though he is thirteen. Mary
is still having trouble with it and is trying one thing at a time.
Then we went to eat dinner with the Abneys and his grandchildren were
there. They were very nice. The younger one couldn't stop talking. He
was worst than Sarah! Haha.
Wednesday: Nothing really exciting happened except had district
meeting and had a meeting with President Coots and Brother Bailey.
Basically teaching what Brother Baileys calling was (branch mission
leader). We also went over goals and what we want to happen in the
branch.
Thursday: We had a bunch of appointments in the morning, but they all
fell through. So we saw Sammy, a less active we tracted into, and
Sister Wiebe and read some scriptures with them. We saw a potential
and the lesson went awful. We taught the restoration way too fast, but
he seemed to still be pretty interested. We went to see Mary and
Marilyn. Marilyn is in the hospital with pneumonia. We showed her a
video called "A Shower of Heavenly Blessings" and she is willing to
work on the commandments! Very nice! So this is he first time I can
say that I have eaten something weird on my mission. We went to the
Sweet's house for dinner. They fed us moose. They made it into a
meatloaf type thing and it was delicious. I didn't take a picture
because it didn't look anything different from a regular meatloaf.
They got the moose from Alaska because they used to live there. I'm
sorry Sarah. But hey it was delicious.
Friday: We had weekly planning and right afterwards we went to visit
Marilyn in the hospital. We gave her a blessing of the sick and she
said she felt a lot better afterwards. We were on our bikes all day.
We were going to try Fran, but she wasn't feeling well. So we decided
to pray on where to tract. Elder McCoy decided on a street and as we
pedaled towards the street, we saw it looked like a street full of
businesses, so we were going to turn around, but I was promoted that
we should go anyway. So after a little bit of trying to convince Elder
McCoy to go, we go there and we find one house. So we went up to it
and the lady was getting out a 1920s lawnmower out. Not gas powered or
anything, just the blades on wheels. So we asked if she needed help
and she let us help. We ended up spending three hours mowing their
lawn and didn't get much done. I mean we got a lot done concerning the
type of lawnmower we were using. We taught her the restoration while
we were mowing her lawn. We were invited back. Then we went to Mimi
and Blue's and shared a video with them. It was so hot in their house
that my face turned red and they thought I got sunburnt, so they gave
me sunscreen.
Saturday: We went to Sister Wiebe's and helped mow her lawn. Then we
helped Mary pack some more stuff in her house. We went to Humpy's and
read the Book of Mormon with him. We told him why it was important and
how he could get a testimony of it. He told us he would read it. At
the end of the day, we saw Brother Bailey and shared more goals with
him to take to branch council.
Sunday: We had branch council and left early so we could have Brother
Cook take Mary to church, but she didn't come because she had to pick
up Marilyn from the hospital. So it was a real bummer. It was very
nice going to church though. Elder McCoy gave a talk and right when he
started crying, he laughed to make the awkwardness go away, but it
just sounded kind of creepy haha. His talk was good though. We saw a
bunch of people after church. And then we tried a potential and he
yelled at us telling us to leave. It was awkward. It was also awkward
when we were tracting and a lady kept yelling at us to keep walking
and to try her Dads house across the street. But it was nice going to
the Church of Christ. So many people were friendly to us. We even got
to see Kaitlyn, a friend of ours who works at the library. It was nice
talking to her. A lady chased after us and said she was going to
invite us to her church when she saw us tracting on her street last
week, but I guess God gave us the message. It was a nice day.
That's all this week. I'd like to reflect on some song lyrics that I
have listened to. "We pour out our miseries. God just hears a melody.
Beautiful, the mess we are. The honest cry of breaking hearts are
better than a 'hallelujah.'" God loves it when we worship him, but he
loves it even more if we continue to try to perfect ourselves. As we
strive to become better and better and ask for help from Him, He will
listen and help us in our lives. I testify that this is true. And I
hope y'all have a good week!
